The Perfect Addition to the Community’s Sporting and Recreation Space
The design and construction of a multipurpose synthetic FIFA/AFL/CA field for the Carrum Downs community was one of Tuff Group’s first certified synthetic AFL
fields to be designed and constructed. In collaboration with Frankston City Council, Tuff Group undertook the design and construction of a 14,500m synthetic surface with a full-sized FIFA pitch, overlaid AFL linemarking, a full-sized practice soccer goalbox, three futsal/training pitches, and a static summer/winter cricket pitch.
A multipurpose pitch of this size and function was the perfect addition to the community’s sporting and recreation space, working in unison with the adjacent natural pitch to provide an all-weather alternative that can absorb the extra hours of usage the community generates
Tuff Group worked with civil specialists Midlands Contractors, whom we have collaborated with on multiple successful projects in the past, to craft a suitable subgrade and capping layer within the specification outlined by the project geotechnical engineers, Ground Science.
This project utilised a vertically-draining base, which is a specialised base that combines a pavement profile with stormwater retention and drainage properties, working in tandem with v-shaped French drains to manoeuvre stormwater across the field to the LPOD beneath the synthetic surface. This method can be exceptionally environmentally friendly, particularly when recycled aggregates are used in the profile.
The field is both FIFA and AFL/CA certified using the Vmax50 Elite system with premium, heat resistant TPE infill, and receives regular maintenance from the Tuff Maintenance team to ensure the field continues to perform as new.
